The wealth of my experience extends beyond the dates of my resume. For the past several years, communication and leadership in education, from preschool to college levels, has been the primary focus of my career, including nearly two years managing a federally funded youth organization in Polk County and teaching Communication courses at Chemeketa Community College since 2016.  My teaching philosophy centers around creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment. It is about imparting knowledge and fostering critical thinking skills and a lifelong love for learning. I draw inspiration from my Jesuit learning principles, which have instilled a deep appreciation for understanding and engaging with the world around us. As a first-generation college student, I understand the unique challenges that many of my students face, especially those from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds.  Read more...

The lesson plan was developed from an original assignment passed on to me from a colleague. She did impromptu speeches throughout the term at random during each class. She would draw a student’s name and a prompt, then give the student two minutes to outline a speech and present it from their seat, standing in front of the class. I eliminated this assignment from the standpoint of it creating a looming sense of anxiety.  See Lesson Plan...

Each college requires a different format for their course syllabus. This example is a combination of three different college syllabus but incorporates more inclusive and friendly language to help ease students into the course and introduce them to material in a friendlier manner.
