I draw inspiration from my Jesuit learning principles, which have instilled a deep appreciation for understanding and engaging with the world around us. The lesson plan was developed from an original assignment passed on to me from a colleague. She did impromptu speeches throughout the term at random during each class. She would draw a student’s name and a prompt, then give the student two minutes to outline a speech and present it from their seat, standing in front of the class. Each college requires a different format for their course syllabus. This example is a combination of three different college syllabus but incorporates more inclusive and friendly language to help ease students into the course and introduce them to material in a friendlier manner.
